 Marble slabs for marble countertops have been valued for years for their rich palette of colors. Marble countertops are however more porous than granite countertops. For this reason, we highly recommend that you NOT put marble countertops in the kitchen. Marble slabs consist of limestone that has undergone heat and pressure. A transformation process takes place when the weight of overlying material, pressure from crystal collisions and heat from the earth's core generate temperatures in excess of 1800ºF. The texture of marble slabs depends on the form, size and uniformity of grains. The element components of marble determine the color of the slab. Generally calcite and dolomite marbles are of pure white color. Variations of whiteness in pure marble slabs are due to the mixture of foreign substances. Such impurities form streaks and clouds.
